General Amenities and Information
Camp Kana’da is made up of Helen Bethune Lodge, four tenting sites (Sargeant Site, Graham’s Corner, Knoll, Lower Orchard), and Upper Orchard Adirondacks shelter site containing Watermelon Patch and Cron’s Cozy.
DIRECTIONS TO CAMP
From Dartmouth, travel towards Musquodoboit Harbour on Highway # 107, when the highway ends turn right on to the # 7 Highway continuing towards Musquodoboit Harbour. Approximately 100 meters past the hospital, turn right onto West Petpeswick Road (just before the Irving Station). Keeping to the right, continue approximately 3 kms. Entrance to Camp Kana’da is on the right; it is marked with a Girl Guides of Canada sign that is located on the left-hand side of the road directly across from the driveway. There are two fluorescent orange posts at the end of the driveway with civic # 600 attached. If you miss the driveway, please continue to the next public road to turn around.
Please note there is limited parking at each site, but a main parking lot is available.

Sites
Helen Bethune Lodge (overnight capacity: 36, day capacity: 100)
Guiding Day Rates: $15 booking fee + $5/person rental fee*
Guiding Overnight Rates: $15 booking fee + rental fee $150/night up to 20 campers + $8/person/night over 20 campers + $3/person for Day visitors*
FACILITIES
- Building is winterized and has electric heat and large central fireplace. Ensure you bring fire starters, kindling, and matches.
- The alarm system is wires in but not monitored. If alarm activates you must contact 911.
- The smoke detectors are hard wired.
- Building is wheelchair accessible.
- 4-stall washroom with two (2) shower stalls and a separate leader washroom (W/C)
- 28-bunk main bunk room – no mattresses
- 8-bunk leaders bunk room – no mattresses
- Additional sleeping capacity exists in the following areas based on usable space at current configuration and allowing for safe exit. Sleeping capacity formula: length x width / 49.
- Main Room 25’ x 33’ / 49 = 16
- Kitchen 7’ x 10’ / 49 = 1
- Coat Room 8’ x 9’ / 49 = 1
KITCHEN
- Hot and cold-water year round
- 2 Stoves (1 electric, 1 propane)
- 1 Refrigerator, 1 Stand up Freezer, 1 Fridge/Freezer Combo
- Small table for prep
- Assorted dishware, cookware, and utensils available. If you need specialized tools please ensure you bring them from home.
- Hand Washing Sink must have soap & paper towel at all times
FIRST AID ROOM

COMMON ROOM
- Stone fireplace
- Several tables & wooden chairs
- Small comfortable den area

Sargeant Site
Guiding Day Rates: $10 booking fee + $3/person*
Guiding Overnight Rates: $10 booking fee + $3/person/night + $3/person for day visitors*
- Tenting is restricted to designated tenting areas. Groups are required to bring their own tents.
- There is limited equipment for tenting sites. The Community Shed has fire buckets and grates, tables, garbage cans, and some large metal containers for heating water.
- The Storage Room (located at the last doorstep in the back of the Lodge) has dish pans/racks, water buckets, large pots, a couple heavy frying pans, a couple small pots, assorted utensils, brooms.
- Firepit (bring your own wood)
- Picnic tables
- Year-round outdoor latrines
- Groups are required to come self-contained.
- Groups are required to take home garbage and recycling.
- Please plan to be self-sufficient in terms of power for cell phones, etc.

Graham’s Corner

- Upper Orchard Adirondacks shelter site containing Watermelon Patch and Cron’s Cozy
- Tenting is restricted to designated tenting areas. Groups are required to bring their own tents.
- Bunk beds are available in the Adirondack site hut (no mattresses provided).
- There is limited equipment for tenting sites. The Community Shed has fire buckets and grates, tables, garbage cans, and some large metal containers for heating water.
- The Storage Room (located at the last doorstep in the back of the Lodge) has dish pans/racks, water buckets, large pots, a couple heavy frying pans, a couple small pots, assorted utensils, brooms.

Payments and cancellations
Payment Process
Payments are transferred directly from the booking group's GGC Nationwide Banking Account on the Due Date(s) listed in the confirmation email. The booking fee is due immediately upon booking. The rental fee is due 7 days after the site use date. Please ensure your account has sufficient funds.
Cancellations must be made 21 days prior to camp. If not, a $100 Cancelation Fee will be charged in addition to the Booking Fee.
