Camping Opportunities

Taste of Adventure 2026 - Pacific Coast

Taste of Adventure is an adventure event for BC Girl Guide members throughout the Province, including Trex, Rangers, Pathfinders, and youth who are currently 3rd-year Guides.

Participants will have the opportunity to experience overnight trips and adventurous activities.

Participants will have the opportunity to choose from overnight out-trip options, including canoeing, backpacking, and bikepacking.

All out-trips will be facilitated by Guiders experienced in adventure activities, and pre-trip training and preparation will be provided.

In addition to adventure out-trips, participants will have the opportunity to go on a variety of day trips, which may include ziplining, adventure courses, climbing, SUP, horseback riding, whale watching, and more. The activities list is not yet finalized, and participants will not be able to do all the offered activities.

Application Information

While applying for camp, keep in mind that we want you to be successful. Please reach out to your Guiders, District Commissioners, and Camping Advisors for help and advice. You are also welcome to contact us: Joy Bernardo (bc-adventuretrex@girlguides.ca) and Riley Haslinger (bc-campingoutdoors@girlguides.ca).

Financial Information

  • As you are applying for this camp, it is considered a Selected Event. Most Areas and Districts have directives that supply subsidies for these selected events. This is not a handout; it is money from cookie sales designated for this purpose. It is appropriate to send a thank-you and help out at a local Girl Guide event to express gratitude to the council that supported you.
  • If your Area or District does not have designated funds, you can ask about financial subsidies.
  • Almost everything you will need is supplied, but if you need items like a sleeping bag or hiking boots, ask for help. Very often, you will be able to borrow gear or get a hand-me-down from an older youth.

Youth Application Questions

You will need to have the name and contact information of a Guider (adult volunteer) who is familiar with your abilities. Please have answers to the questions below ready when you apply:
  • What is your Guiding Area?
  • How many years have you been in Guiding?
  • What is your favourite part of Guiding?
  • What relevant skills have prepared you for this camp?
List any other experiences or certificates you have earned, in Guiding or outside of Guiding, that pertain to this camp/event.
  • What are your interests and hobbies outside of Guiding?
  • Explain what you hope to contribute to, and what you hope to gain from, this camp.
  • How will you share your experiences with your unit and district?
  • Provide dates and short descriptions of some relevant camps you have participated in.

Camp Skills for Youth and OAL 2 Tent Training for Rangers and Guiders.

Event Details

  • What: A BC provincially-supported camp skills weekend for Guides and Pathfinders. This event will include OAL 2 (Outdoor Adventure Leadership) Tent training for adult Guiders and Rangers. Districts or Areas can organize this event as a coordinated effort that combines youth camping and adult training.
  • Where: Locally throughout BC, planned by your district or area
  • When: Crests can be delivered as early as April 22, 2025
  • Participants: Guides and Pathfinders (campers), adult Guiders and Rangers (trainees)
  • Hosts: Area or District trainers and camping enthusiasts
  • Costs: Crest: $1.75 for campers, free to Rangers and Guiders taking OAL 2 Tent training. This event is provincially subsidized by cookie sales. This event is a weekend activity. Local prices will depend on host choices. Groups should budget to cover the cost of any food provided, program materials, and any site fees.
  • Contact: bc-camping@girlguides.ca

Adults and Rangers participating in OAL 2 Tent training will move through the same stations as the youth under the guidance of a trainer. The trainer’s role is to enrich content and cover OAL 2 Tent training goals. While youth will cover similar programs, Guider/Ranger participants will engage in more in-depth, hands-on learning, while the youth activities may be more fun-focused. During stations, mentor Guiders will provide help and ratio for the youth, allowing those Guiders and Rangers who need OAL 2 Tent training to focus on learning. To complete OAL 2 Tent training, attendees must spend at least one night in a tent. A pre-training will occur before the weekend. This supports participants by preparing them for the weekend. Guides and Pathfinders can be included if you have capacity. This could be in-person or online training.
